Our History

Ever wonder what keeps the engines turning on the huge tankers, supertankers and other ocean-going vessels which stream in and out of the ports of Durban and Cape Town? Wonder no more, because this is one of the central responsibilities of KZN Bunkers. In short, KZN Bunkers ensures smooth sailing. No newcomer to the game, KZN Bunkers has been in operation since 1984. Originally it was set up to deliver SASOL marine fuels in the port of Durban. A black-empowerment company, KZN Bunkers aims to provide quick, efficient and effective marine fuel serviices to ships entering the eastern and western seaboards.

BEE compliance was achieved on January 1, 2004 when petroleum-trading company KZN Oils acquired 26% of the the FFS Bunkers, and subsequently increased its shareholding to 100%. The company is an ISM accredited company. Barges and vessels are vetted by the Joint Bunker Service (JBS) and deliveries are made on behalf of all petroleum companies party to this body. The barges are also vetted by Total Marine and deliveries on behalf of this company exclusively carried out by KZN Bunkers
